As reliance for all kinds of medications become more prevalent, so is the need for big pharmaceutical companies to keep making new drugs in order to keep up with the demand.  In a world where medications are highly relied upon, it is not uncommon for new drugs to be constantly developed by big pharmaceutical companies in order to get the edge on the competition. This wildly competitive nature of the drug manufacturing industry boils down two main choices for big pharmaceutical chains: 1) act ethically, abide by the rules but risk moving slowly and get smoked by the competition or 2) ignore the rules and any ethical considerations and risk hurting a lot of people but improve your chance of reaping a lot of money. Sadly, the latter takes precedence over the former most of the time.

Risperdal is a prime example of a product that has been created and marketed by cutting corners and disregarding various rules and ethical considerations solely for the benefit of being ahead of the curve. To illustrate, Risperdal was sold off-label to the pediatric market as a means to circumvent the delay from all the bureaucratic processes. Additionally, Risperdal was sold to the pediatric market without much testing done. Testing that would have revealed a higher percentage of Risperdal users at risk of suffering gynecomastia than what studies done by J & J have shown. Simply put, it is a product that was thrown into millions of users by whatever means necessary in order to feed and satisfy a bottomless business marketing plan.

As a result, tens of thousands of adult and young male have suffered serious side effects due to Risperdal ingestion. One of these side effects is gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is defined as enlargement of the glandular tissue of male breast.  It results from the imbalance in the hormonal environment in the body with a relative excess of estrogens (female hormones) compared to androgens (male hormones). Though gynecomastia may occur during infancy and puberty in normally developing boys, it can also result as a side effect from taking medications such as Risperdal.

J & J’s business marketing plan has racked billions of dollars in profits but also left tens of thousands of adult and young male to suffer not only emotional turmoil but also a debilitated physical appearance that is never going away unless the breast growth is surgically removed.

Our firm is continually fighting for men and boys who took Risperdal and developed gynecomastia.   We continue to file cases seeking compensation for disfigurement and emotional suffering. If you think you have a case, please do not hesitate to give our firm a call.
